Woodcock Sports Centre update

As many of you will know, the Woodcock Sports Centre is being refurbished over the next twelve months and will be closed from August 2010 until August 2011.

The refurbishment will greatly enhance the sport and recreational facilities available to students, staff and the wider community. Aston will have a Sports Centre to be proud of with some exciting new developments.

Overview of the Woodcock refurbishment and latest refurbishment news.

Temporary Gym

A temporary gym facility will be opening on Monday 2 August to replace the Woodcock Gym during the refurbishment. The transition will be made as seamless as possible with minimum disruption to your workout routine. The temporary gym will be located at Priestley Wharf on the Birmingham Science Park Aston - just 100 yards from the Woodcock Sports Centre. The new gym will be spacious, modern and light with fantastic views over the canal and impressive courtyard. All current gym facilities will be transferred to the temporary gym which will be staffed at all times by qualified gym instructors.

Opening hours will remain exactly the same Monday - Friday with extended opening hours at weekends. Existing members will be automatically transferred and new members are very welcome!

Aerobics and yoga

Aerobics and yoga classes and courses will be held upstairs in the Gem Sports Hall during the refurbishment.

Swimming

The swimming pool will be closed during the refurbishment – although it is hoped the pool may re-open as early as June 2011.
