Aston technician receives prestigious award

David Walton and Susan Izon

Aston employee, Dave Walton, was one of the recipients of the first West Midlands Technician of the Year Awards.

Dave, who works as a laboratory technician in EAS, won the Technical Work in Support of Research Award and received his award at a ceremony held here at the University as part of the British Science Festival.

The awards were set up to recognise excellence in technical work in support of chemical sciences across the wide spectrum of activities which utilise and depend on chemistry-based technicians in the West Midlands.

Dave said: “I was surprised, delighted and honored to have won this award and would like to thank the people who nominated me.  I think the award is a very positive showcase for technical staff everywhere, whether based in industry or academia, particularly when put in context of the British Science Festival.  Hopefully such an event will encourage people to nominate their technical staff in the future.”

Nominations were open to anyone providing technical support to those working in chemical sciences from Birmingham, Coventry, Wolverhampton and Stoke-on-Trent.
