Staff from across the University got together to enjoy a Charity Christmas Ball at Aston Villa Football Club on Saturday night (4 December) organised by Sport Aston's Simon Foster. The Ball, in aid of Simon’s friend David Robinson (who is suffering from a brain tumour), raised over £1,700 on the night, with more money still to come.
Staff, friends and family enjoyed a drinks reception followed by a three course meal with coffee and mince pies. There was charity raffle with prizes generously donated by colleagues within the University. The Library also ran a ‘name the teddy bear’ competition which raised £131. Later in the evening guests enjoyed a disco and partied the night away.
Simon said, "It was great to see staff and students talking, laughing, dancing and really having a good time! The best ‘mover’ of the night award has to go to Jean Hasson [Marketing] who owned the dance floor all evening!
"This event really did bring out the best in Aston University staff. People were so kind, generous, supportive and most importantly came together from all departments of the University and had a fun night! All the raffle prizes had been donated by Aston University staff or friends and family of staff. The support I have received is unbelievable and truly touching and I feel lucky to be working with so many amazing people. I would like to thank everyone who attended this ball for all your help and support!"
The £100,000 is within reach – to find out how David is getting on and how you can help, please see: www.davidleerobinson.co.uk.

Perhaps there will be a summer ball for all those who missed out this time...
