Aston Business School receives maximum accreditation

Aston Business School has been awarded the highest accreditation possible by EQUIS, the international quality accreditation body for high performing business schools.

This seal of approval means that Aston is one of only nine business schools in the UK and the only business school in Birmingham, to be awarded the full five-year accreditation by the European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS), the quality inspectorate for the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD). This is a strong indicator of the confidence in the provision and quality of the School’s teaching and learning, and also its world-class research.

This confirms ABS’s standing as a ‘triple crown’ institution: along with EQUIS, the School is recognised by AMBA – the Association of MBAs and the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, AACSB. This ‘triple crown’ status places Aston among the top one per cent of business schools worldwide.

There are three and five-year accreditations, and the latter is only awarded to selected business schools that satisfy the tough criteria and exceptionally high standards set by EQUIS, signifying that these schools are good in all areas and excellent in many of them. 

Prof John Edwards, Executive Dean, ABS,  said: “We consider Aston to be the best, and we work hard to ensure that it is recognised as a truly outstanding learning community. It is, however, very welcome to be told by an external and independent source that we are achieving well not only nationally but internationally.”

The aim of EQUIS is to uphold excellence in management education worldwide, and successful schools must demonstrate a balance between high academic quality and professional relevance alongside close interaction with the rapidly evolving corporate marketplace. EQUIS attaches particular importance to the creation of an effective learning environment that favours the development of students’ managerial and entrepreneurial skills, and fosters their sense of global responsibility. It also looks for innovation and creativity taking place within the School.
