Green ICT and Quality Education: online conference

AS part of the HEFCE funded project ‘Leading Curriculum Change in Sustainability’ led by John Blewitt (Aston Business School) there will be an online conference for staff and students taking place on 16 November. With the help of colleagues Kevin Brace and Neil Cocklin from CLIPP, the conference will be delivered via Elluminate and will address two major issues:

  • How Green ICT can enhance quality learning within Higher Education generally and at Aston in particular.

  • How Green ICT can help lower the carbon footprint of the university.

The contention is that an important characteristic of quality higher education is the way it addresses the sustainability imperative both in terms of the curriculum and also its socio-ecological impact. This online conference, with its low carbon impact, will demonstrate how ICT, sustainability and technologically enhanced education are closely related.

The Conference will run from 13.00 to 16.30 UK time. There will be short presentations followed by opportunity for Q&A with John Blewitt offering a final summing up and evaluation. Before the event, information will be posted on the conference webpage about Aston’s approach and commitment to education for sustainability and green ICT. Contributions from Jon Taylor (Director of E Learning in ABS) Dr Radu Calinescu (currently leading the Cloud Computing research project in EAS), Victoria Johnsen, (Aston’s Environment and Sustainability Manager),Dr Christopher Brewster (Aston Business School).
