Crossing Boundaries: Aston’s Year of Ethnicity and Culture 2010-2011 – Would you like to join the Steering Group?

Following the successful Year of Gender and Power it has been agreed to move on to a year of Crossing Boundaries: Aston's year of Ethnicity and Culture which will start in October 2010 and end by December 2011.

The aims of the Year are:

  • to celebrate the diversity of the Aston Community which includes its students, staff, partners and stakeholders

  • through research, learning and teaching, community engagement and employment practice,  to build on the Aston experience of working to cross boundaries between people of different backgrounds.

We are at the point where we need to start planning the events for the year and we intend to offer a Graduate Placement for 6 months to put the programme in place, begin the promotion work and ensure the events are organised appropriately. However, we need to have an active Steering Group to come up with ideas for events, prioritise our activities in line with available funding and ensure that we are representing a wide range of views from across the University.

Would you like to be a member of the Steering Group? Or do you know someone from your area who you think would be interested and able to make a particular contribution? The Group will meet monthly prior to the beginning of the Academic Year 2010-11 and at least termly once the programme is up and running.

Please get in touch if you would like to be a member of the Group or would like any further information: Helen Higson, Pro-Vice-Chancellor External Relations, ext 3191, email h.e.higson@aston.ac.uk.
