Aston BUCS News - 1st February 2017

BUCS

After a long holiday period our Aston teams were raring to go in this week’s BUCS fixtures. Unfortunately due to adverse weather conditions many games were called off, however 10 of our teams managed to play and were determined to get there first wins after the Christmas break.

The day started off with a visit from University of Derby who traveled to play our Netball firsts in the Midlands 4A division. This was a difficult match to call as the two teams are closely matched and are fighting it out for second and third place in the league. After a strong start Aston came out convincing winners with a 54-33 victory. The Men's Squash team were also in action later on as they comfortably defeated a Nottingham Trent side 3-0, a Nottingham Trent team who needed the win to keep their dreams of staying up alive.

Both of Aston's Badminton teams were back in action this week. The Mens team travelled to the University of Birmingham, putting in a promising performance but eventually being defeated 7-1, while the Womens team welcomed the University of Bedford who they defeated 8-0 in a dominant performance. The Womens team will be extremely happy with their win as they are looking for promotion this season, and will be looking to build on this performance.

It was a fairly mixed bag of results for Aston this week, however there are most definitely promising performances moving forward as our teams look to make an impact in the second half of the season.
