Aston BUCS News -19th October 2016

BUCS

After an encouraging opening week of BUCS fixtures for Aston, the second week of fixtures were not so promising. There were mixed performances all round, with the highlight of the day being the womens Badminton away win against Staffordshire firsts - a fantastic performance against a strong Staffordshire side. The mens team were also in action, narrowly being beaten by Derby 3-5. On the whole, both Badminton teams put in a great effort and will look to improve on these performances for the rest of the season.

In Football, our firsts put in a triumphant display and a fantastic last 10 minute performance as they scored three goals without answer, defeating UCB firsts 4-2. Our seconds were also in action, drawing with Leicester seconds 2-2. An end to end game, with the seconds showing great determination to secure there second draw of the season.

After a winning start to the season the mens Rugby team continued their winning ways with a 13-10 win against the University of Derby. Sadly the match was abandoned late on as an Aston player suffered a neck injury. Everyone at BUCS & Sport Aston wishes the individual a quick recovery. In other Rugby news, our seconds matched up against a powerful Coventry side. Unfortunately Coventry were too strong for Aston, running out 0-44 winners. Despite the loss, the second team should take a lot of confidence from there first two performances, having narrowly being beaten last week.

Our mens squash team put in another great performance this week, defeating Nottingham 3-0 in the Midlands 3A division. This is their second win of the season as they currently sit top of the division, 7 points ahead of Nottingham as the only team to be undefeated in the league. In other fixtures Netball were narrowly defeated by the University of Derby 46-49. A promising performance by the Netball team however, who will be looking to better this performance next week when they play the University of Cambridge in the cup. Overall, Aston have seen a mix of performances by our teams this week. Regardless of this however, every team has showed great determination and most importantly a positive attitude throughout all of the games.
