Aston BUCS News -16th November 2016

BUCS

This week of BUCS fixtures saw the majority of our Aston teams competing in their respective leagues, as they try to pick up as many points as possible before the Christmas break. This week yet again it was a mixed bag of results for our Aston teams. Despite this, there were some noticeable performances in both Rugby and Badminton.

The noticeable performance in Rugby came as the first team defeated the University of Derby 27-17. This is the third time the two teams have played each other in the past month, and the re-match from last week where the two teams drew 18-18 - making it an extremely heated match. Mens badminton also had a stand out performance this week as they defeated the University of Warwick 7-1.  A strong Warwick team were outclassed by Aston as we took an early lead and continued to dominate for the rest of the match.

In other results our Fencing team faced University of Nottingham seconds in their first match of the season, defeating them comfortably 135-109. Expectations are high this season for a league triumph after Aston's cup win last year. The mens football 2nd were also in action this week against Anglia Ruskin Mens 3rd defeating them 3-0. This is a big win for the seconds as it pushes them up the table into third, as they push for promotion this season. Womens Badminton continued their winning run as they defeated Birmingham City 5-3. Aston now sit second in the Midlands 3A division with a game in hand behind the leaders University of Nottingham.

Despite a mixed bag of results for Aston this week, there were stand out performances from a number of teams who clinched vital wins as they look to promotion this season. Overall it was fairly positive, with all of Aston teams putting in encouraging performances which they will look to improve on.
