Aston BUCS News - 13th October 2016

BUCS

It has been an exciting first week of BUCS fixtures for Aston. We have made a promising start in a number of sports, something we can be extremely proud of and take forward for the rest the season. In the early matches of the day both of Aston's Tennis teams putouraging away performances against the University of Worcester Men's and University of Women's team's respectively. Unfortunately both teams failed to take advantage of these performances as the men's team lost narrowly 4-8, and the women's team 0-12.

The next match of the day saw Aston's newly promoted Hockey firsts, face off against Nottingham Trent 2nd's in the Midlands 2A league. Despite an encouraging first half performance where Aston trailed 0-1 at the break, a strong second half performance saw Nottingham Trent secure a 7-0 win. The women's firsts team were also in action yesterday, as they faced off against the University of Bedfordshire firsts. They were too much for Bedfordshire as a fantastic performance saw them win 14-0 in the Midlands 3A.

The first week of fixtures saw Aston Netball seconds play away to the University of Worcester. Although the second team put in a valiant performance they were overall beaten by a strong University of Worcester side. The game finished 20-59 to the University of Worcester.

Over in the Woodcock Sports Centre Aston Netball firsts were also off to a strong start against the University of Nottingham. The match finished 39-32 to Aston, as a strong team performance saw the girls defeat a strong University of Nottingham side. Following this match the Aston men's Volleyball firsts also put in a promising performance, defeating the University of Wolverhampton 3-1. The game was highly contested with both teams putting in early performances - with Aston coming out on top as there late dominance showed.

Elsewhere at the Recreational Centre Aston's Rugby and Football teams were in action. The men's football teams put in fantastic performances as the firsts defeated the University of Wolves 3-1, while the seconds also won, defeating BCU 2-1. The Rugby firsts started their season off with a 48-10 win against a strong University of Worcester team. The seconds were narrowly defeated by Nottingham Trent 18-20. With both teams having full 22 man squads for the first season in a while, both teams can be expected to put in a strong fight in their leagues respectively.

Overall the first week of BUCS fixtures has been a success. Every team who played put in strong performances which can hopefully pave the way for the rest of the season. The season is already looking like an exciting one! #TeamAston
