The Darren Hale Triathlon - 5th May 2017

We would like to say a huge congratulations to everyone who took part and supported the Darren Hale Triathlon. The day was a massive success and was truly special, as it brought everyone at Sport Aston and the wider community together in the memory of a beloved friend and colleague. With the event being a massive success, and with everyone saying how much they enjoyed the day, we have decided to make the Darren Hale Triathlon an annual event held on the 5th of May each year.

Our original target was to raise £1500, which would go towards the purchase of a de-fin machine for the Cannon Hill Park Run. However thanks to the amazing support shown, we have raised an incredible £2,297.46, nearly £800 over our original target! The money raised will now go towards the purchase of two de-fib machines for the Cannon Hill Park Run, with the money left over being donated to the Aston University running club; Aston Gazelles. A club close to Darren's heart as he was their coach for a number of years.

A Total of £2,297.46 Raised!

About Darren

Darren was the Campus Sports Manager at Sport Aston but was so much more than that to everyone here. You could usually hear Darren before you saw him because of his loud but infectious laugh.

He was always smiling, cracking a joke (probably an inappropriate one) or...running.

Darren was an exceptional athlete who mainly competed in long distance running but recently found a love for triathlons.

Darren will always be missed and this triathlon is one way we can celebrate his life and one of his passions.
