Jed

Jed Arksey

Sport: Badminton

Course: Economics and Management 

Highest Sporting Achievement: Playing in the German top division, after being promoted two years in a row. 8 Nations Silver Medal in doubles. Captained school to Number 5 in the world at the World Championships. 

Jed Arksey is an individual who has competed at the very top level in his discipline. Jed has competed in the Bundesliga in Germany where he was being paid to compete in the sport he loves. Jed's aims for this year are to get back into the England set up, and to break into the top 50 in the UK. Jed is also competing for Aston in BUCS and is hoping the team can push for promotion this season. 

Jordon

Jordon Tam

Sport: Fencing

Course: Accounting for Management 

Highest Sporting Achievement:  Finishing 5th in the British Youth Championship. Finishing 1st in the North West Regional British Youth Championship. 

Jordan Tam is a well accomplished fencer, who specializes in foil. Jordan has competed and has success at both Regional and National Level and is looking for more of the same in the future. Jordan's aims this year are to win both the BUCS league, and to repeat the success of the fencing team last year who won the national BUCS cup. 

Matt

Matthew Marriott

Sport: Cycling (XC and Cyclocross)

Course: Electrical and Electronic Engineering (BEng)

Highest Sporting Achievement: British Army MTB XC Junior Champion. British Army Cyclocross Senior Champion & U23 Champion. 

Matthew Marriott has been competing in British Army races for many years, placing extremely well at many Army events. This year he is aiming for even better as he aims to place well at national events across the country. Matthew has been training non stop for the last three months for the start of the BUCS season, as is looking forward to showcasing his skill for Aston. 

Stan

Stan Bowley

Sport: Fencing

Course: Industrial Product Design

Highest Sporting Achievement: GB Senior National Rank- 36th, Bay Open Champion 2011/12

Stan Bowley is a keen fencer, specializing in the Sabre. He has rapidly increased his ranking in both BUCS and national leagues as well as competing regularly. As well as this he is a British Fencing Association Level 2 Qualified Coach. Stan has founded and is currently running the Fencing Club on campus and has been representing us in BUCS competitions very well. His goals include improving his individual rankings and competing in the British U20 selection Circuit. 

Yhaye

Yahye Dirir

Sport: Athletics 

Course: Industrial Product Design 

Highest Sporting Achievement: Under 15 800m Midlands Countries Champion. Under 17 West Midland Young Athletes winning team Cross Country.  

Yahye Dirir is an extremely motivated individual who has aims of being selected for at national level this year. Yahye has already finished second at the Northern Indoor Athletics Open in Sheffield and is hoping for more success as he completes his first year here at Aston, where he will be competing for us in BUCS.
Curtis

Curtis Harvery

Sport: Karate

Course: Business and International Relations

Highest Sporting Achievement: British National Championships Gold

Curtis Harvey is a motivated sportsman who competes in Karate. He has claimed Gold in the British National Championships as well as bringing the Gold back for Aston winning the BUCS championship last year. In the coming year Curtis is looking to improve his currently impressive world ranking further. He is also determined to win a medal at the FEW European Karate Championships in the senior individual category.

Keenan Lawrence

Sport: Basketball

Course: Sociology

Highest Sporting Achievement: National


Georgia

Georgia Green

Sport: Athletics

Course: International Relations and English Language 

Highest Sporting Achievement:  Finishing 10th in the UK for long Jump in 2013. Finishing 10th in the UK for Triple Jump in 2016. 

Georgia Green is an extremely athletic individual who competes in the Long Jump and the Triple Jump at national level. Georgia's aim this year is to medal at least one BUCS event, while improving on her personal bests in both disciplines as she aims for over a 6m Long Jump and 12m Triple Jump.
