Simba Rwambiwa

Sport: Athletics, Triple Jump

Course: Business and Management, Second Year

Highest Sporting Achievement: Ranked 4th in West Midlands for Triple Jump.

Simba is an all round Athlete. He started his career as a Sprinter running 200m and 400m and earning many accolades in these, including; Gold Medalist at Young Athletes League Nationals 400m and being ranked 3rd in 200m indoor 2013. He has since switched disciplines, very successfully, to Triple Jump. He is currently ranked 6th for Indoor Triple Jump and 10th in the country for u20. Simba will be looking to break the elusive 15m mark and improve his rankings this season. Find out more about Simba and his training in his focus article. 

Temilola Tewogbade

Temilola Tewogbade

Sport: Triple Jump

Course: Law, First Year

Highest Sporting Achievement: Ranked 9th in the U.K for Triple Jump  (U18)

Temilola is a motivated athlete who specialises in Triple Jump. Temilola was able to to jump an extremely respectable distance of 11.44m in 2013 which left her ranked 9th in the U.K in 2013. Since then Temilola has followed that impressive performance up with a Bronze medal in the South of England Championships. Temilola now has her sights set on this coming season where she hopes to gain a new personal best and gain a country and district title.

Lauren Shelley

Lauren Shelley

Sport: Horse Riding (Eventing, Dressage and Show Jumping) 

Course: Psychology, Second Year

Highest Sporting Achievement: 1st Place in the PC National Blehneim Palace Eventers Challenge 2015.

Lauren is a passionate Horse Rider who competes in Eventing, Dressage and Show Jumping. Lauren has competed in many national competitions whilst successfully winning gold in the National Dressage Championships in 2013 and in the National Blehneim Palace Eventers Challenge in 2015. This coming season, Lauren is looking to build upon her already impressive achievements and win more competitions nationals in Eventing, Dressage as well as Show Jumping)

Stan Bowley

Stan Bowley

Sport: Fencing

Course: Industrial Product Design, Placement Year

Highest Sporting Achievement: GB Senior National Rank- 36th, Bay Open Champion 2011/12

Stan Bowley is a keen fencer, specializing in the Sabre. He has rapidly increased his ranking in both BUCS and national leagues as well as competing regularly. As well as this he is a British Fencing Association Level 2 Qualified Coach. Stan has founded and is currently running the Fencing Club on campus and has been representing us in BUCS competitions very well. His goals include improving his individual rankings and competing in the British U20 selection Circuit. 

Yasmin Bhardwaj

Yasmin Bhardwaj

Sport: Karate

Course:  Business and Management, First Year

Highest Sporting Achievement: Gold Medals in the FEW European Championships (2011 in Lisbon/ 2012 in Venice/ 2013 in Lisbon/ 2014 in Reading)

Yasmin is an enthusiastic sportswomen who competes in Karate. She has an extremely impressive resume winning Gold in the FEW European Championships in 2011, 2012, 2013 and in 2014. Along wit this Yasmin has also represented her country in the Wado-Kai World Cup in Japan impressively reaching the quarter finals. Yasmin wants to build on her already impressive achievements and win another Gold in the FEW European Champion. She also has her sights set on achieving another medal at the Budapest European Championships this year.

Brinder

Brinder Phagura

Sport: Cricket

Course: Management & Public Policy, Second Year

Highest Sporting Achievement: Winner of Alec Hastilow Trophy, best batsman U19 2014.

Brinder Phagura has represent Warwichshire County Cricket Club at second elevel, U19 and U17 level. He has been awarded the most promising young cricketer in the midlands Alec Hastilow trophy and shows lots of potential going forward. He is currently looking to make first eleven for the Warwickshire County Cricket Club, whilst he continues to represent Aston University. 

Chris Williams

Christopher Williams

Sport: Badminton

Course: Marketing, Fourth Year

Highest Sporting Achievement: Cheshire Tournament Finalist beating 4 seeded players on the way.

Christopher Williams is currently the coach of Aston Hawks who are Aston's Badminton team. Chris has represented Warwickshire Senior County for the past 3 years in all disciplines of singles,doubles and mixed doubles. He has been competing on the senior circuit for the past 3 years and has reached 5 singles finals winning 2 of them. Chris was ranked in the top 10 at u19 level in the country and looks to build on that by breaking in to the top 30 in the country.

Curtis Harvey

Sport: Karate

Course: Business and International Relations

Highest Sporting Achievement: British National Championships Gold

Curtis Harvey is a motivated sportsman who competes in Karate. He has claimed Gold in the British National Championships as well as bringing the Gold back for Aston winning the BUCS championship last year. In the coming year Curtis is looking to improve his currently impressive world ranking further. He is also determined to win a medal at the FEW European Karate Championships in the senior individual category.
