Industrial economist and Deputy Dean of Aston Business School Professor Caroline Elliott will deliver the latest in Aston University’s series of inaugural lectures, free for the public to attend.
The talk, titled ‘Why the outlook for economics may not be so dismal after all’, will explore how economists in and outside of academia were criticised in light of the financial crisis from 2007 onwards, and how the way the subject was taught at degree level was very publically challenged.
However, despite a troubled few years for the subject, Professor Elliott will show what is being done to improve its reputation and to transform the way it is taught at university.
Professor Elliott became Deputy Dean of Aston Business School in March 2017, having been a Professor in Industrial Economics and Director of Teaching and Learning at University of Huddersfield. She is senior economics editor of the journal Cogent Economics and Finance, and has strong research interests in regulation and competition policy and the impacts of regulatory interventions on firms’ behaviour.
