Aston University is on track for Silverstone, with engineering undergraduates competing in Formula Student 2015 competition.

The annual international Formula Student competition is Europe’s most established educational motorsport competition, run by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).

Universities from across the world are challenged to design and build a single-seat racing car to compete across a variety of speed and endurance events which are designed to push the performance of their vehicles to maximum capacity.

The competition seeks to challenge university students to conceive, design, build, cost, present and compete as a whole team.

Team leader Mark Wightman, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for engineering students to apply their academic knowledge in a real world competitive environment. The team are delighted to be competing at Silverstone, which is a real honour in itself."

The Silverstone event runs from Thursday, 9 July until Sunday, 12 July. Members of the public are invited to attend Silverstone on Saturday, 10 July and Sunday 12 July, with tickets available on the website.
