Uprooted from her home in Munich to foster parents in Wales, Susi spoke about her harrowing story and experiences in both Germany and the UK. Forced to repress her German identity, at the age of 52, Susi began a painful journey of rediscovering her roots and exploring the fate of her mother who vanished in Auschwitz. Her life story has been the subject of BBC TV documentaries and provided the major model for W.G. Sebald’s acclaimed novel “Austerlitz” (2001).
The public talk and discussion was organised by Uwe Schütte, Reader in German in Aston’s School of Life and Social Sciences. -ends
