BBC Radio 4 comedy to pit Aston students against their lecturers

The 3rd Degree

1 December 2014

BBC Radio 4’s hit comedy quiz, The 3rd Degree, will be recorded at Aston – and pit three of the University’s students against their lecturers.

The show, hosted by comedian and ‘Mock The Week’ regular, Steve Punt, will take place in the Aston’s Great Hall on 15 December. Now in its fifth series, the popular programme rattles through a series of serious and silly topics with humour, vigour and curiosity.

Question rounds range from specialist and general knowledge, quickfire bell and buzzer, individual tests and a ‘highbrow and lowbrow’ section.

Tickets for the show are free and can be booked here on a first-come, first-served basis: http://aston3rddegree.eventbrite.co.uk

The Aston academics taking part to test their grey matter are Professor Gina Rippon, of the Psychology department, Peter Coe, a Lecturer in Law, and Professor Ian Nabney, of the Computer Science department. They will face off against students from their respective departments.

The show is produced and directed by David Tyler, who has worked on comedy classics such as Spitting Image, Not The Nine O’clock News, Coogan’s Run and Cabin Pressure.

All staff, students and members of the public are welcome to attend the recording in the Great Hall, in Aston’s Main Building, on Monday 15 December. Please arrive at 5.30pm for a 6pm start.

Tickets can be booked for free here: http://aston3rddegree.eventbrite.co.uk
