Aston University’s newly appointed Professor of Logistics has received the prestigious Inaugural Member of the Year Award from the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT).

Professor Edward Sweeney has joined the School of Engineering & Applied Science to aid with the development and implementation of the integrated supply chain management (SCM) development programmes and also to carry out research and consultancy work.

He was previously Director of Learning at the National Institute for Transport and Logistics and has held academic posts at the University of Warwick and the University of Technology, Malaysia, as well as visiting positions in several Asian universities and institutes.

Furthermore, Professor Sweeney has lectured in more than 30 different countries in Europe, North America and Asia.

In the citation at last week’s CILT awards reception, Institute President Finbarr Cleary and Chair of the Institute’s Membership Committee, Elsie Morgan, noted that: “Professor Sweeney’s contribution to the Institute, our industry and in shaping supply chain thinking in our country and further afield has been considerable. He is a role model for our fellow members and a worthy recipient of this special inaugural award.”

The CILT is the recognised global professional body for supply chain, logistics and transport fields. The Member of the Year Award recognises the exceptional contribution of an individual to the Institute through participation in and support of its events, publication of learned articles, and recruitment of new members of other significant activities.
