An Aston graduate has won a place in prestigious Birmingham Future Graduate Apprentice Scheme 2012.
The annual programme identifies an exceptional, recent graduate through a rigorous application process to offer them a uniquely structured, 12 month salaried placement. The placement offers an opportunity to work with one large, one small and one public sector company, giving the graduate a broad depth of experience on completion.
Management and Strategy graduate, Lauren Hornbuckle, faced high competition to be declared the seventh winner of the unique scheme, which is managed by Birmingham Future’s Talent Retention and Development committee, in collaboration with Graduate Advantage.
Lauren, originally from Nottingham, was shortlisted from around 100 applications in this UK wide competition. She will now be working with Brewin Dolphin, one of the largest British investment management and investment banking firms; Glide Utilities, the company that makes bills simple for tenants and property businesses; and Bluesource Recruitment, a professional services recruitment agency.
Lauren said: “Being this year’s Graduate Apprentice is such an amazing opportunity. I relish the chance to be an ambassador for Graduates across the whole West Midlands. The diversity of the placements was also a huge draw for me, as you don’t get many chances to try a bit of everything for a year. I’m really looking forward to giving this year my all so that I really impress the employers and make my mark”
Highlights of Lauren’s time at Aston University included her voluntary role with Aston Students Guild as Editor of the iAston magazine, which she transformed into an eco-friendly mobile app.
