Aston University celebrated success at the first ever National Placement & Internship Awards, launched by the undergraduate recruitment website RateMyPlacement.co.uk.
The Awards which took place at Oxford Brookes University on 21st January were designed to celebrate excellence within student work placements and internships. Aston University received ‘The Award for the University with a Forward Thinking Attitude to Work Experience’, demonstrating the University’s continued commitment and support in finding high quality placement positions for students.
Aston University student Nick Gilbert also came out on top as he received the award for ‘Outstanding Contribution by a Student on Work Experience’. The Aston Business School student, who spent his placement in Geneva with PEG S.A, received a share of £2000 in prize money and was further rewarded with an offer of a full-time graduate position at the company.
Maureen Tibby, Head of Careers at Aston said, “Aston University is pro-active and innovative in its approach to supporting and enhancing employability. We ensure that work-based and work-related learning is an integral part of the Aston students’ higher education experience.”
Aston has over 50 years experience in providing students with integrated placement opportunities and was one of the pioneers of this approach to university degrees. Around 70% of their students take sandwich or language programmes with almost one in five gaining offers of graduate positions by their placement employer.
