It’s Astonbury 2008!

3 June 2008 – for immediate release

On Saturday, June 7th, in Birmingham city centre, Aston University’s Students’ Guild will host Astonbury, with great headline acts such as Radio 1’s Zane Lowe, Kano, Jay Sean, The Troubadours, Underground Heroes and Sheffield’s next big thing - Little Man Tate.

The day (which will be run by students for students) will kick off with a nostalgic summer fayre themed event, with up to 20 different sports teams and societies running fairground stalls along with a bouncy castle, Dodgems and a dunk tank for everyone to relive their youth.

The University’s resident bug buster, BBC Three’s Grime Scene Investigations star Dr Anthony Hilton, will also be on hand to offer hints and tips on festival food and general hygiene (just in case any bugs are lurking in the dreaded festival loos!)*

Astonbury will have two stages, with the main stage hosting internationally known music artists covering a wide variety of music genres and a smaller DJ stage offering a diverse mix of music to cater for the University’s multicultural community.

Sound engineering and equipment is being provided by SSE Audio – who will provide the sound engineering for the Glastonbury Festival this year.

Underground Heroes are flying back from Ibiza Rocks to play at Astonbury, before flying back out to Ibiza the day after to play another gig!

To cap the evening off there will be a fireworks display by Kimbolton fireworks - they are the best in the business and it promises to be incredible!

Astonbury is sponsored by IBM. Students with a valid student card are eligible for tickets.

*A separate press release about Dr Hilton is available on request. Photos of Anthony and an Astonbury publicity photo are also available.
