The Labour, Finance and Industry Group (LFIG) lecture provides an opportunity for a senior spokesperson for the Labour Party to make a major policy speech in their area.
Yvette Cooper entered Parliament in 1997 and is one of the leading members of the Labour Front Bench. She is MP for Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford, and before entering Parliament worked as chief economic correspondent of The Independent. She is Shadow Home Secretary in Ed Miliband’s Shadow Cabinet. We are delighted to welcome her to Birmingham to give this year's lecture.
In contrast to our “soundbite age”, the LFIG lecture format allows time for a major policy speech that goes into detail about lessons learned from past events, considers international comparisons, and sets out the political and philosophical basis for emerging policy.
