Former HM Ambassador to Germany and High Commissioner in India
His career as a British diplomat started in 1972, with an immediate posting to the UN in New York. His main speciality has been Europe and Britain’s relationship with the EU, as he led the Maastricht Treaty negotiating team in London and the EU Single Market legislation team in the late 1980s. After postings in Paris, Washington and London, he went to India in 2003 as High Commissioner and then on to Germany as British Ambassador in 2007, before leaving government service in late 2010.
Sir Michael Arthur is currently the UK Chairman of Koenigswinter. He is also active in the not-for-profit sector, as Trustee of various international organisations, in the charitable and academic sectors.
Sir Michael Arthur was educated at Oxford where he read Politics and Economics.
