Retired Aston Staff

As a retired member of Aston staff you are entitled to retain your Library membership.

How do I join the library?

You will need to complete a registration form.  We will need to check your status as a former employee of the University. Once we have checked your details, your visitor card will be ready within one week and you will be notified when you can collect it from the Library Help desk.  (Please check the Help desk opening hours.) You will need to bring proof of your current home address when you collect your card.

You will need to bring your visitor card each time you come to the Library to gain access to the building. Your visitor card can also be used to borrow books.

Is there a charge?

No

Can I borrow books?

Yes, you may borrow a total of 6 books at any one time. (You will not be able to borrow short loan books or journals.) Fines will be charged on overdue books.

When can I use the Library? Providing you have your visitor card on you, you can use the Library from 09:00 - 21:00 Monday to Friday, up until 18:00 on Saturdays and up until 17:00 on Sundays. This is the case even when the Library is open to Aston University staff and students for extended opening hours.

Can I access electronic resources?

If you bring in your own laptop you can request a wifi username and password when the Help desk is open.  You can then access many of our online resources (with some restrictions).

How long does my membership last?

3 years. This is renewable on request but you will need to complete a new registration form each time you wish to renew, or if your card is lost.
