Research Excellence Framework 2014

The exceptional quality of research in the School of Life and Health Sciences (LHS) has been confirmed in the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF) results – Aston is ranked 8th out of 94 institutions in the UK for Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy.

This reflects the volume of internationally excellent and world leading research produced within the School and is an outstanding achievement for the University.

94% of our Research Excellence Framework submission for Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy at Aston has been judged World Leading or Internationally Excellent.

  • 92% of submissions have been awarded World Leading or Internationally Excellent for Output.
  • LHS is ranked top 10 in the UK for research Output by every measure (GPA, 4*/3*, 4*, and QI) and is in the top 5 for 4*/3* ratings.

The exceptional quality of the research carried out by the School of Life & Health Sciences (LHS) has been demonstrated once again in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF2014) results. LHS research is ranked 5th overall out of 94 UK Higher Education institutions in Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy, top 10 in the UK by every measure, and 1 st  for Environment which assesses the “vitality and sustainability” of our research.  In LHS, 94% of our academic research is classed as world leading or internationally excellent. This outstanding performance reflects the vibrant, world class research environment, and is a testament to the worldwide reputation and outstanding scientific activity of our research staff.
