MRI scanning is a powerful medical diagnostic tool that uses a strong magnetic field to produce high-quality images of the body. The images are generated using advanced computer technology, an extremely powerful magnet and radio waves. Unlike x-rays and Computerised Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging does not use radiations. MRI is the diagnostic method of choice for many neurological and musculoskeletal conditions and can be used in virtually all areas of the body. It is particularly effective in identifying problems in soft tissue such as nerves, muscles, ligaments and tendons and offers images of the brain and spine of unprecedented quality.
The Aston MRI Centre offers the latest in outpatient MRI technology, conducted by highly-skilled professionals. We operate one of the most advanced MRI scanners (Siemens Trio) and the only 3 Tesla fixed system available in the private sector in the region. A 3 Tesla MRI scanner uses a more powerful magnet 1.5 Tesla system, which results in images of a higher quality and reduced scan times. This means that structures such as internal organs, joint surfaces, cartilage, ligaments and muscles can be seen in greater detail.
