The overall aim of this module is to develop your understanding of how health behaviours are predicted by health psychology theories. This module provides a flexible route if you wish to expand your knowledge and skills by studying one or more modules whilst also managing your working commitments. It also offers a taster of studying at this level without committing to a whole course.

The module forms part of the MSc Health Psychology, which was commended by the BPS for its support for students.

This module aims to provide an understanding of how health behaviours are predicted by health psychology theories. The content uses key health behaviours and applies theories that have been used frequently to predict these behaviours. For example, using the Theory of Planned Behaviour model to predict exercise. Theories are assessed for their usefulness in predicting health behaviour.

This course is delivered via distance learning. You will access learning materials for general study, revision and assessment via our virtual learning environment, Blackboard. This platform allows you to access a comprehensive range of study materials, scientific journals, e-journals, databases and much more. You will also be able to access a wide range of psychometric scales relevant to health psychologists that are owned by the department and data analysis software such as SPSS.

Students are assigned a tutor and student-tutor contact is usually every month, often by Skype or telephone, in addition to email contact.

Assessment is by coursework, which may take the form of an essay, a report or similar.

This module forms part of the MSc Health Psychology which is accredited by the BPS as Stage 1 training in Health Psychology.
