Pharmacy Academic Practice Unit

The Pharmacy Academic Practice Unit is part of the Aston Pharmacy School. The APU is situated in Birmingham Children's Hospital just over the road from the Aston University Main building and provides an exciting and innovative link between Aston Pharmacy School and the practice of pharmacy.

Whilst situated in a world renowned specialist paediatric teaching hospital the APU is a conduit to pharmacy practice in all sectors and specialties. The APU provides a focus for teaching, training and research in three main areas. These are:

  • Near patient pharmacy
  • Pharmacy education
  • Development of novel drug formulations.

As part of these programmes the APU provides a leading role in the development of practice-related postgraduate courses and in particular the professional doctorate in pharmacy (PharmD). Enhanced inter-professional learning (IPL) is central to pharmacy practice training provided by Aston Pharmacy School. The APU is strategically placed within the Pharmacy Department of Birmingham Children's Hospital to support the development and delivery of IPL to both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
