Aston is a friendly and diverse learning environment, home to a close-knit international campus community.

We have 2,500 international students from over 120 countries studying a wide range of subjects in our safe and friendly city centre campus.

Applications from Ugandan students are especially welcome.

Aston University's links with Uganda

Ugandan students have been studying at Aston for number years and each year we welcome many more new students. We currently have 7 Ugandan students studying at Aston University.

Academic staff regularly visit Uganda to work with our partner institutions and to take part in international conferences.

Ugandan community on campus & in Birmingham

Green campus

There are a number of societies which may be of particular interest to Ugandan students. The African Carribean Student's Society organises cultural and social events. 

There are also a number of societies which bring together students from similar religious backgrounds. Find out more about societies at Aston.  

Birmingham is a multi-cultural city and there is a strong African community. You'll find African restaurants, supermarkets, music, dance and more in the city.

Aston is able to guarantee you University accommodation for the duration of your studies, providing you apply by the deadline each year.

Meet us in Uganda

Staff from the International Office visit Uganda several times per year to take part in British Council Education UK Exhibitions, visit schools and colleges and to meet with students through our official representative offices.

Students from Uganda who do not meet the English language requirement for their academic course study are on our Preparatory English Programmes.

You can apply for Year 1 of an undergraduate degree having sucessfully gained your Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) The marks required vary depending on which subject the student is applying to at Aston University. 

Engineering and Science subjects will require specific subjects.

English language requirements for undergraduate courses.

Postgraduate – Taught Masters

You can apply for a 1 year masters programme with an undergraduate degree from a recognised Ugandan university. 

You should have at least a 2.1 from a Ugandan university.  The specific percentage requirement will vary depending on the course you are applying for at Aston and the Ugandan university from which you have graduated.

If you are applying for finance, engineering, science or social science based subjects; you must have studied a similar field in your undergraduate degree.  There are a number of conversion programmes in business and management which are appropriate for students from any subject background. 

English language requirements for taught postgraduate programmes.

Postgraduate - MBA
You can apply for the MBA programme with an undergraduate degree, in any subject area, from an overseas institution and a minimum of three years post graduation managerial work experience. You should have at least a 2.1 from a recognised Ugandan University.

English language requirements for MBA.

Postgraduate – Executive MBA

You can apply for the Executive MBA programme with an undergraduate degree, in any subject area, from an overseas institution and a minimum of five years post graduation managerial work experience. You should have at least a 2.1 from a recognised Ugandan university. This programme takes 2.5 years in total and is taught in blocks of 6 days at a time.  It requires the commitment of the student to travel to the UK 6 times per year. 

Postgraduate - Research 

Each of Aston's Schools of Study has a number of research groups with the potential to host PhD students. Research specialisms include finance, economics, marketing, organisational psychology, bioenergy, knowledge engineering, photonics, languages, biomedical sciences, neurosciences, health sciences and more. 

You have to submit a detailed research proposal outlining your intended research topic, its objectives, proposed method of research and an indication of how the proposed research topic relates to previous work by other researchers. Find out more on Aston's Postgraduate research pages
