A welcoming and multi-cultural learning experience for more than 10,000 students

Aston is a friendly and diverse learning environment, home to a close-knit international campus community.

We have 2,500 international students from over 120 countries studying a wide range of subjects in our safe and friendly city centre campus.

Applications from Nigerians are especially welcome, with postgraduate scholarships of between £2,500 and £5,000 available. Please see below.

Aston Business School Scholarship Award Scheme 2016/17

Nigerian students can apply for an undergraduate scholarship award of £3,500.

Postgraduate

Aston Excellence - £5,000

We are pleased to announce we will be offering Nigerian students the opportunity to make an application for an Aston Excellence Scholarship. These Scholarships are worth £5,000, and are awarded as a tuition fee discount. Full terms and conditions can be found here.

Automatic Merit - £2,500 - £3,000

Nigerian students achieving a 2:1 degree classification in the UK, or local equivalent, will automatically be awarded a scholarship of between £2,500 and £3,000.

Ferguson Foundation Scholarship 

Aston's school of Life & Health Sciences are offering 7 scholarships funded by the Ferguson Foundation to students from Africa and South America. Full details here.

Nigerian students studying at Aston University partner institutions are eligible for a 10& discount on tuition fees. See here for more information.

Alumni Bursary

Aston Alumni qualify for an automatic 20% discount on tuition fees  

External Funding

Nigerian students have been studying at Aston for many years and each year we welcome many more new students. We currently have 230 Nigerian students studying at Aston University.
Academic staff regularly visit Nigeria to work with our partner institutions  and to take part in international conferences.

Aston University is not affiliated to Trans World Education College or any other local providers in Nigeria.

There are a number of societies which may be of particular interest to Nigerian students. The African Carribean Student's Society organises cultural and social events.

There are also a number of societies which bring together students from similar religious backgrounds. Find out more about societies at Aston.

Birmingham is a multicultural city and there is a strong African community. You'll find African restaurants, supermarkets, music, dance and more in the city.

Staff from the International Office visit Nigeria several times per year to take part in education exhibitions, visit schools and colleges and to meet with students through our official representative offices.

Undergraduate

Students who have Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (SSCE) will be required to complete a recognised Foundation Programme.

For entry to the International Foundation Programme we would require an average of eight subjects at C6 and above. Must include subjects that are relevant to the degree programme.  

You should have a minimum of Grade 4-6 in SSCE in English language. If you cannot show that you have obtained this grade in English, then you can provide us with an IELTS or TOEFL qualification. Please see our standard English language requirements.

Postgraduate - Masters

You should have a degree from an Nigerian university recognised by the Nigerian University Commission (NUC) and the specific percentage requirement will vary depending on the course you are applying for at Aston and the Nigerian university from which you have graduated. In general applicants should have completed a Bachelors honours upper second class degree.

If you are applying for finance, engineering or science based subjects, you must have studied a similar field in your undergraduate degree.

There are a number of conversion courses in the Business School which will accept students from any subject background.  

English language requirements for taught postgraduate programmes.

Postgraduate - MBA

You can apply for the MBA programme with an undergraduate degree, in any subject area, from an overseas institution and a minimum of three years post graduation managerial work experience. You should have completed should have completed a Bachelors honours upper second class degree from a recognised Nigerian university.

English language requirements for MBA.

Postgraduate – Executive MBA

You can apply for the Executive MBA programme with an undergraduate degree, in any subject area, from an overseas institution and a minimum of five years post graduation managerial work experience. You should have completed a Bachelors honours upper second class degree from a recognised Nigerian university. This programme takes 2.5 years in total and is taught in blocks of 6 days at a time.  It requires the commitment of the student to travel to the UK 6 times per year. 

Postgraduate - Research

Each of Aston's Schools of Study has a number of research groups with the potential to host PhD students. Research specialisms include finance, economics, marketing, organisational psychology, bioenergy, knowledge engineering, photonics, languages, biomedical sciences, neurosciences, health sciences and more. 

You have to submit a detailed research proposal outlining your intended research topic, its objectives, proposed method of research and an indication of how the proposed research topic relates to previous work by other researchers. Find out more on Aston's Postgraduate research pages
