Aston is a friendly and diverse learning environment, home to a close-knit international campus community.

We have 2,500 international students from over 120 countries studying a wide range of subjects in our safe and friendly city centre campus. 

Applications from Ghanians are especially welcome, with postgraduate scholarships of between £2,500 and £5,000 available. Please see below.

Postgraduate Taught Scholarships

Ferguson Foundation Scholarship

Aston's school of Life & Health Sciences are offering 7 scholarships funded by the Ferguson Foundation to students from Africa and South America.

Students will be required to cover living expenses and make a £3,000 contribution towards fees, with the remainder of the fees are covered by the scholarship. Full details here.

Aston Excellence - £5,000

Aston University is pleased to offer the 50th Anniversary Postgraduate Scholarships worth £5000 each.

MBA Scholarships

Future Leader / Entrepreneur Scholarship

The Future Leader / Entrepreneur Scholarship of £10,000 will be awarded to students who can demonstrate leadership / entrepreneurial qualities and experience to date in their career and how this will contribute to the Aston MBA programme.

Chevening Scholarship

Aston University is proud to support the Chevening scholarship programme. Chevening scholarships are the UK government's global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations.

Chevening Awards are an important element in Britain’s public diplomacy effort and bring professionals, who have already displayed outstanding leadership talents, to study in the UK. The objective of Chevening is to support foreign policy priorities and achieve FCO objectives by creating lasting positive relationships with future leaders, influencers, and decision-makers.

Aston University's links with Ghana

Ghanaian students have been studying at Aston for number of years and each year we welcome many more new students. We currently have 19 Ghanaian students studying at Aston University.

Academic staff regularly visit Ghana to work with our partner institutions and to take part in international conferences.

Ghanaian community on campus & in Birmingham

There are a number of societies which may be of particular interest to Ghanaian students. The African Carribean Student's Society organises cultural and social events.

Birmingham is a multi-cultural city and there is a strong African community. You'll find African restaurants, supermarkets, music, dance and more in the city.

Staff from the International Office visit Ghana several times per year to take part in education exhibitions, visit schools and colleges and to meet with students through our official representative offices.

Undergraduate

Students who have Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (SSCE) will be required to complete the Foundation Programme.

For entry to the International Foundation Programme we would require an average of eight subjects at C6 and above. This must include subjects that are relevant to the degree programme.  

You should have a minimum of Grade C6 in SSCE in English language. If you cannot show that you have obtained this grade in English, then you can provide us with an IELTS or TOEFL qualification. Please see our standard English language requirements.

Postgraduate - Masters

You should have a degree from an Ghanaian university with a high percentage or GPA. 

If you are applying for finance, engineering or science based subjects, you must have studied a similar field in your undergraduate degree.

There are a number of conversion courses in the Business School which will accept students from any subject background.

Postgraduate - MBA

You can apply for the MBA programme with an undergraduate degree, in any subject area, from an overseas institution and a minimum of three years post graduation managerial work experience.

Postgraduate – Executive MBA

You can apply for the Executive MBA programme with an undergraduate degree, in any subject area, from an overseas institution and a minimum of five years post graduation managerial work experience. This programme takes 2.5 years in total and is taught in blocks of 6 days at a time.  It requires the commitment of the student to travel to the UK 6 times per year. 

Postgraduate - Research 

Each of Aston's Schools of Study has a number of research groups with the potential to host PhD students. Research specialisms include finance, economics, marketing, organisational psychology, bioenergy, knowledge engineering, photonics, languages, biomedical sciences, neurosciences, health sciences and more. 

You have to submit a detailed research proposal outlining your intended research topic, its objectives, proposed method of research and an indication of how the proposed research topic relates to previous work by other researchers. Find out more on Aston's Postgraduate research pages
