Aston University provides a welcoming and multi-cultural learning experience to approximately 10,000 students, many of whom live on our safe and friendly city centre campus. The University has more than 2,300 international students from over 120 countries studying a wide range of subjects.

Aston University's links with Thailand

Thai students have been studying at Aston for many years and each year we welcome many more new students. We currently have 62 Thai students studying at Aston University. 

Our partner institutions in Thailand are the Asian Institute of Technology and Chulalongkorn University.

Thai community on campus & in Birmingham

There is a very active South East Asian community at Aston. There are a number of societies on campus which bring together students from similar religious backgrounds. Here you can find out more about societies at Aston.

Birmingham is a multi-cultural city and there is a strong South East Asian community. You'll find South East Asian restaurants and more in the city.

International Foundation Programme

Students who have graduated with 12 years of high school education will need to study our International Foundation Programme (IFP), which has streams available in Business/Social Sciences, Engineering, and Health Science/Science.

Students  who do not meet the English language requirement for their academic course can apply to study on our Preparatory English Programmes.

Students who have been awarded with Thai High School Maw will be required to complete a recognised Foundation Programme.

For entry to the International Foundation Programme we would require at least 3.0 GPA  or 70% average as a minimum. Some degree programmes, such as engineering, sciences and languages, require specific subject backgrounds.

English language requirements for undergraduate courses.

Postgraduate – Taught

You can apply for a 1 year masters programme with an undergraduate degree from a recognised Thai University.  

You should have at least 3.0 GPA / B+ overall or above from a recognised Thai university.  The specific requirement will vary depending on the course you are applying for at Aston and the university from which you have graduated.

If you are applying for finance, engineering, science or social science based subjects; you must have studied a similar field in your undergraduate degree.  There are a number of programmes in business and management which are appropriate for students from any subject background. 

English language requirements for taught postgraduate programmes. 

Postgraduate - MBA 

You can apply for the MBA programme with a recognised undergraduate degree, in any subject area, and a minimum of three years post graduation managerial / professional work experience. You should have at least 3.0 GPA / B+ overall or above from a recognised Thai university. 

English language requirements for MBA. 

Postgraduate - Research 

You should have at least 3.0 GPA / B+ overall or above from a recognised Thai university.  The specific requirement will vary depending on the course you are applying for at Aston and the university from which you have graduated.

Each of Aston's Schools of Study has a number of research groups with the potential to host PhD students. Research specialisms include finance, economics, marketing, organisational psychology, bioenergy, knowledge engineering, photonics, languages, biomedical sciences, neurosciences, health sciences and more. 

You have to submit a detailed research proposal outlining your intended research topic, its objectives, proposed method of research and an indication of how the proposed research topic relates to previous work by other researchers. Find out more on Aston's Postgraduate research pages
