Aston University's links with Indonesia

Indonesian students have been studying at Aston for many years and each year we welcome many more new students. We currently have 21 Indonesian students studying at Aston University. 

Aston University is proud is be a partner university of The Indonesia-UK DIKTI Scholarship ProgrammeThis Programme is open for lecturers at Indonesian universities and administrative staff at DIKTI and Indonesian state universities, to undertake postgraduate study at many leading universities and higher education institutions in the United Kingdom. The programme will fund up to 750 academics to come and study in the UK over the next five years. All academic subjects are eligible for funding under the DIKTI programme.

Indonesian community on campus and in Birmingham

There is a very active Indonesian community at Aston. There are a number of societies on campus which bring together students from similar religious backgrounds. Here you can find out more about societies at Aston

Staff from the International Office visit Indonesia several times per year to take part in British Council Education UK Exhibitions, visit schools and colleges and to meet with students through our official representative offices.

Students who have graduated with 12 years of high school education will need to study our International Foundation Programme (IFP), which has  has streams available in Business/Social Sciences, Engineering, and Health Science/Science.

Students who have been awarded with STTB SMA will be required to complete a recognised Foundation Programme.

For entry to the International Foundation Programme we would require a minimum average of  8 out of 10 marks. Some degree programmes, such as engineering, sciences and languages, require specific subject backgrounds.

English language requirements for undergraduate courses.

Postgraduate – Taught

You can apply for a 1 year masters programme with an undergraduate degree from a recognised Indonesian University.  

You should have a minimum overall GPA average of 3 from a recognised Indonesian university.  The specific requirement will vary depending on the course you are applying for at Aston and the Indonesian university from which you have graduated.

If you are applying for finance, engineering, science or social science based subjects; you must have studied a similar field in your undergraduate degree.  There are a number of Masters programmes in business and management which are appropriate for students from any subject background.


English language requirements for taught postgraduate programmes.


Postgraduate - MBA You can apply for the MBA programme with a recognised undergraduate degree, in any subject area, and a minimum of three years post graduation managerial / professional work experience. You should have at least 3.0 GPA / B+ overall or above from a recognised Indonesian university.

Postgraduate - Research 

In order to apply for a research degree programme, you should have a minimum overall GPA average of 3 from a recognised Indonesian university.  The specific requirement will vary depending on the course you are applying for at Aston and the Indonesian university from which you have graduated.

Each of Aston's Schools of Study has a number of research groups with the potential to host PhD students. Research specialisms include finance, economics, marketing, organisational psychology, bioenergy, knowledge engineering, photonics, languages, biomedical sciences, neurosciences, health sciences and more. 

You have to submit a detailed research proposal outlining your intended research topic, its objectives, proposed method of research and an indication of how the proposed research topic relates to previous work by other researchers. Find out more on Aston's Postgraduate research pages
