Aston University provides a welcoming and multi-cultural learning experience to approximately 10,000 students, many of whom live on our safe and friendly city centre campus. The University has more than 2,300 international students from over 120 countries studying a wide range of subjects.

Aston University's links with Oman

Omani students have been studying at Aston for many years and each year we welcome many more new students. We currently have 7 Omani students studying at Aston University.

Academic staff regularly visit Oman to work with our partner institutions and to take part in international conferences.

Omani community on campus & in Birmingham

There is a very active Arab community on campus. There are a number of societies which may be of  interest to Omani students. The Arab Soc organises cultural and social events. Find out more about societies at Aston.

Birmingham is a multi-cultural city and there is a strong Arabic community. You'll find Arabic  restaurants, music, dance and more in the city.

Staff from the International Office visit Oman several times per year to take part in British Council Education UK Exhibitions, visit schools and colleges and to meet with students through our official representative offices.

Students from Oman who do not meet the English language requirement for their academic course study are on our Preparatory English Programmes.

Students who have been awarded with Thanawiya will be required to complete a recognised Foundation Programme. For entry to the International Foundation Programme we would require overall mark of 80-85% as a minimum.

You can apply for a year 1 of Bachelors degree with an 2 year Diploma/Certificate.  Applicants holding the Higher Diploma may be considered for Year 2 entry of relevant programmes. We normally look for average GPA of 3.0/5.0 as a minimum.

Some degree programmes, such as engineering, sciences and languages, require specific subject backgrounds.

English language requirements for undergraduate courses.

Postgraduate – Taught Masters

You can apply for a 1 year masters programme with a good undergraduate degree from a recognised top Omani university. 

You should have a GPA of 3.0/4.0 overall or above from a good recognised Omani university. The specific requirement will vary depending on the course you are applying for at Aston and the Omani university from which you have graduated.

If you are applying for finance, engineering, science or social science based subjects; you must have studied a similar field in your undergraduate degree.  There are a number of conversion programmes in business and management which are appropriate for students from any subject background. 

English language requirements for taught postgraduate programmes.

Postgraduate - MBA
You can apply for the MBA programme with an undergraduate degree, in any subject area, from an overseas institution and a minimum of three years post graduation managerial work experience. You should have a GPA of 3.0/4.0 overall or above from a recognised top Omani university.

English language requirements for MBA.

Postgraduate – Executive MBA

You can apply for the Executive MBA programme with an undergraduate degree, in any subject area, from an overseas institution and a minimum of five years post graduation managerial work experience. You should have a GPA of 3.0/4.0 overall or above from a recognised top Omani university. This programme takes 2.5 years in total and is taught in blocks of 6 days at a time.  It requires the commitment of the student to travel to the UK 6 times per year. 

Postgraduate - Research 

Each of Aston's Schools of Study has a number of research groups with the potential to host PhD students. Research specialisms include finance, economics, marketing, organisational psychology, bioenergy, knowledge engineering, photonics, languages, biomedical sciences, neurosciences, health sciences and more. 

You have to submit a detailed research proposal outlining your intended research topic, its objectives, proposed method of research and an indication of how the proposed research topic relates to previous work by other researchers. Find out more on Aston's Postgraduate research pages
