Chevening Scholarship

Aston University is proud to support the Chevening scholarship programme. Chevening scholarships are the UK government's global scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations.

Chevening Awards are an important element in Britain’s public diplomacy effort and bring professionals, who have already displayed outstanding leadership talents, to study in the UK. The objective of Chevening is to support foreign policy priorities and achieve FCO objectives by creating lasting positive relationships with future leaders, influencers, and decision-makers.

We have many studentships and funded research opportunities available, including a scheme to launch 50 Prize Fellowships and Prize Studentships in celebration of our 50th year. For more information see here.

South Korean students have been studying at Aston for many years and each year we welcome many more new students. We currently have 30 South Korean students studying at Aston University.

Academic staff regularly visit South Korea to work with our partner institutions and take part in international conferences.

Our School of Languages and Social Sciences takes part in the annual KOTESOL (The Korea Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) Conference in October and Aston academics have delivered an academic lecture at the British Council in Seoul on a range of different topics each summer.

There are a number of societies which may be of particular interest to South Korean students including a Tae Kwon Do as well as a number of societies which bring students from similar religious backgrounds together. Birmingham is a multi-cultural city and there is a strong Oriental community. You'll find South Korean  restaurants and much more in the city.

Aston is able to guarantee you University accommodation for the duration of your studies, providing you apply by the deadline each year.

Staff from the International Office visit South Korea two time per year to take part in agent Exhibitions, visit schools, colleges and partner institutions and to meet with students through our official representative offices.

International Foundation Programme

South Korean students holding a High School Diploma must first study our International Foundation Programme, which has streams available in Business/Social Sciences, Engineering, and Health Science/Science.

Undergraduate

South Korean applicants holding either the Academic or Vocational High School Diploma will be required to complete a recognised Foundation Programme.

For entry to the International Foundation Programme we would require an overall B grade average. Individual subject marks may also be required as well as evidence of you English language ability.  

You may apply for Year 1 of an undergraduate degree upon graduation with a Diploma from a recognised Junior College in South Korea.

Some degree programmes, such as engineering, sciences and languages, require specific subject backgrounds.  Others, including business and some social sciences, are appropriate for students from any previous subject combination.   

Postgraduate – Taught 

You can apply for a 1 year masters programme with an undergraduate degree from a recognised Korean university.

You should have at least a GPA of 3.0 from a Korean university. The specific percentage requirement will vary depending on the course you are applying for at Aston and the Korean university from which you have graduated.

If you are applying for finance, engineering, science or social science based subjects; you must have studied a similar field in your undergraduate degree.  There are a number of conversion programmes in business and management which are appropriate for students from any subject background. 

Postgraduate - MBA

You can apply for the MBA programme with an undergraduate degree, in any subject area, from an overseas institution and a minimum of three years post graduation managerial work experience. You should have at least an undergraduate degree from a recognised Korean university with at least a GPA of 3.0.

English language requirements for MBA.

Postgraduate - Research

You can apply for a research degree programme with an undergraduate degree from a recognised Korean university.

You should have at least a GPA of 3.0 from a Korean university. The specific percentage requirement will vary depending on the course you are applying for at Aston and the Korean university from which you have graduated.

Each of Aston's Schools of Study has a number of research groups with the potential to host PhD students. Research specialisms include finance, economics, marketing, organisational psychology, bioenergy, knowledge engineering, photonics, languages, biomedical sciences, neurosciences, health sciences and more. 

You have to submit a detailed research proposal outlining your intended research topic, its objectives, proposed method of research and an indication of how the proposed research topic relates to previous work by other researchers. Find out more on Aston's Postgraduate research pages
