Aston University provides a welcoming and multi-cultural learning experience to approximately 10,000 students, many of whom live on our safe and friendly city centre campus. The University has more than 2,300 international students from over 120 countries studying a wide range of subjects.

Aston University's links with China

Chinese students have been studying at Aston for number of years and each year we welcome many more new students. We currently have 645 Chinese students studying at Aston University. Notable alumni include Peter Nyuk Sing Thong the President of the Aston Alumni Society.

Academic staff regularly visit China to work with our partner institutions including Beijing University of Technology and Shanghai Jiatong University and to take part in international conferences.

There is a very active Chinese community on campus. There are a number of societies which may be of particular interest to Chinese students. The Chinese students' Society organises trips, cultural and social events. Here you can find out more about societies at Aston

Birmingham is a multi-cultural city and there is a strong Chinese community. You'll find Chinese  restaurants, supermarkets, music, dance and more in the city.

Staff from the International Office visit China several times per year to take part in British Council Education UK Exhibitions, visit schools and colleges and to meet with students through our official representative offices.

Undergraduate

Students who have achieved an average of 80% in the academic subjects in their Senior High School Leaving Certificate after 3 years of study may be considered for a Foundation programme.  

Students with 2 or 3 year University or College Diploma can be considered for undergraduate study - Year 1 entry. Applicants should be scoring a min of 80% average in relevant  academic subjects.
 
University students who have studied 1-2 years (full-time) at a recognised university may be eligible for first year entry, dependent on subjects, institution and grades. 

English language requirements for undergraduate courses.

Postgraduate - Taught

You should have a Bachelors degree from an Chinese university but the specific percentage requirement will vary depending on the course you are applying for at Aston and the Chinese university which you have graduated from. In general applicants should be scoring in the range of 75-85% average as a minimum.  

If you are applying for finance, engineering or science based subjects, you must have studied a similar field in your undergraduate degree.

There are a number of conversion courses in the Business School which will accept students from any subject background.  

English language requirements for taught postgraduate programmes.

Postgraduate - MBA

You can apply for the MBA programme with an undergraduate degree, in any subject area, from an overseas institution and a minimum of three years post graduation managerial work experience. You should have at least an undergraduate degree from a recognised Chinese university with at least 75-85% average as a minimum.

Postgraduate - Research 

In order to apply to a research degree at Aston, you should have a Masters degree from a Chinese university but the specific percentage requirement will vary depending on the course you are applying for at Aston and the Chinese university which you have graduated from. In general applicants should be scoring in the range of 75-85% average as a minimum.  

Each of Aston's Schools of Study has a number of research groups with the potential to host PhD students. Research specialisms include finance, economics, marketing, organisational psychology, bioenergy, knowledge engineering, photonics, languages, biomedical sciences, neurosciences, health sciences and more. 

You have to submit a detailed research proposal outlining your intended research topic, its objectives, proposed method of research and an indication of how the proposed research topic relates to previous work by other researchers. Find out more on Aston's Postgraduate research pages
