Aston Business School Scholarships for International, UK and EU Students (2014 Entry) 

Update

The Aston Business School MSc Scholarship 2014 deadline has now passed. We are no longer accepting applications for scholarships.

Aston is proud to support the brightest and the best students, offering a range of scholarships to Business School postgraduate students who hold offers for the following courses:

  • MSc Business & Management
  • MSc Entrepreneurship & International Business

  • MSc Strategy & International Business   

Eligibility

In order to be eligible for a scholarship award, applicants will need to:

  • Have been offered a place on one of the following programmes: MSc Business & Management, MSc Entrepreneurship & International Business, MSc Finance & Investments, MSc Human Resource Management & Business, MSc International Business, MSc Investment Analysis or MSc Strategy & International Business    
        
  • Be a self-funded student  
       
  • Submit a personal statement (details below) for consideration by a panel of senior University staff   

*Please note if you have previously made an application for an Aston Business School Scholarship for the 2014/5 academic year and were unsuccessful you will not be eligible to apply for this round.

Application

After receiving the offer of a place, and before the deadline of 9am (BST) Monday 18th August, students wishing to apply for a scholarship should submit a personal statement, which should:

  • Be between 500-700 words 
  • Cover factors such as their reasons for the choice of course and its relevance to their future career goals as well as details of relevant work experience, extra-curricular activities and achievements 
  • Provide examples of how they have made an active contribution to business and society 
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities as well as the ability to work successfully as part of a team to achieve outcomes 

Please send your completed application form to absscholarships@aston.ac.uk before 9am (BST) Monday 18th August together with a copy of your academic transcript. Applications sent to other email addresses will not be considered.

Criteria

In assessing an eligible student for the receipt of an Aston Business School scholarship, we will take into consideration:

  • Academic merit based on previous qualifications 
  • Ambition and the potential to make a significant contribution to business and to society after graduation 
  • Leadership potential 
  • Demonstrable qualities which show the desire and potential to become a successful ambassador for the School during and after their studies

Successful applicants

Students in receipt of an Aston Business School scholarship, as the brightest and best of our students, will go on to become advocates for the School. We expect that they will work hard to achieve their potential in their academic qualification, their extra-curricular activities and their future career aspirations.

We will also expect recipients to undertake ambassadorial duties including, but not limited to:

  • Meeting potential students at Open Day sessions 
  • Taking part in webinars and live chat sessions with potential applicants 
  • Providing testimonials and video content for the website and promotional materials 

Scholarship applications must be made after the receipt of an offer from Aston Business School so we would encourage all interested candidates to apply as early as possible.

Aston Alumni Bursaries

In addition to the Aston Business School Scholarships, we will award a bursary of 20% of the full fee for all those who completed their first degree at Aston University.  The bursary will be reflected in your fees which will be shown in the offer e-mail.

Scholarships towards tuition fees, of a minimum of 10% and up to a maximum of 50% of the full fee, are available for talented self-funded candidates who can demonstrate high academic, professional, managerial or leadership potential via the application documents, the interview and a submitted video.

Eligibility

In order to be eligible to apply for a scholarship award, applicants will need to:

  • Be a self-funded student
  • Meet the requirements for entry onto the Aston MBA
  • Submit a two-minute video (details below) within two weeks of offer, for consideration by a panel of senior University staff 

NB No scholarship can be awarded retrospectively; all scholarship applications will only be considered if videos are submitted within 2 weeks of receiving an offer to the MBA programme. All first decisions are final and not subject to appeal.   It is highly encouraged that you submit your scholarship video with your MBA application.

Application

Candidates who wish to be considered for a scholarship are required to prepare a two-minute video to be submitted within two weeks of an offer to the course. The video should:

  • Be no longer than two minutes in length 
  • Consist of a personal sales pitch, telling the panel what sets you apart from other MBA applicants
  • Most importantly, demonstrate specific examples of high achievement in your academic studies, professional career and managerial experience, showing your leadership potential

Scholarship applications will be considered in the order in which they are received so we would encourage all interested candidates to apply to the programme as early as possible, and submit the video no later than two weeks after receiving an offer.  It is highly encouraged that you submit your scholarship video with your MBA application.

An interview to consider suitability for award of a scholarship will be conducted by the Careers Adviser or MBA Director. Decisions will be made within 48 hours of the interview.

Executive (Part-Time) and Online MBA Candidates

Executive (Part-Time) and Online MBA candidates will not be asked to attend an interview; decisions will be made on the basis of the application documents and the submitted video.

Successful Applicants

Successful candidates are most likely to be those who would expect to be in the top 10% of the MBA cohort, and have substantial evidence of past leadership success and/or future leadership potential. They will also demonstrate a strong personal brand and network evidenced by their CV and social media channels such as LinkedIn.

Aston Alumni Bursaries

We will award a bursary of 20% of the full fee for all those who completed their first degree at Aston University.  The bursary will be reflected in your fees which will be shown in the offer e-mail. 

Aston Alumni may also apply for the other ABS scholarships to a maximum award of 50% of the full fee.

School of Engineering & Applied Science Undergraduate Scholarships for International students (2014 entry)


School of Engineering & Applied Science Excellence scholarship scheme

The School of Engineering & Applied Science is pleased to announce 25 scholarships of £3000 each in value for self-financing international students joining our undergraduate MEng, BEng and BSc programmes in September 2014. The scholarships are open to prospective full-time undergraduate students in any subject area within the School of Engineering & Applied Science for each taught year of a course (subject to satisfactory progress).

Who is eligible for this scholarship?

  • You must have applied to us through UCAS and be holding a conditional or unconditional offer of a place of study with the School of Engineering & Applied Science.
  • You must be able to demonstrate an exceptional academic profile (equivalent to 3 Grade AS at UK 'A' Level as assessed by NARIC and the School of Engineering & Applied science admissions team.)
  • You must be able to demonstrate an outstanding personal profile as evidence in your UCAS personal statement.
  • You must achieve a 60% pass mark year on year to qualify to continue to receive this scholarship beyond the first year.

The scholarship awards exclude work placement, foundation and repeat years.

How is the scholarship paid?

  • Scholarships are paid by a reduction in tuition fee.

Other information:

  • Recipients of this scholarship cannot be in receipt of any other scholarship
  • Financial need will not be taken into consideration.

Applicants holding conditional or unconditional firm offers should write a letter of application and a letter of motivation (500 words) which can be submitted by email to engineering@aston.ac.uk

LSS Excellence Bursary    

 Available for all Aston LSS students who hold a First Class Aston undergraduate degree, the LSS Excellence Bursary provides an additional 5% discount on your Masters Tuition Fees which complements the existing 20% Aston Graduate Discount. In total, the LSS Excellence Bursary and the Aston Graduate Discount amount to 25% off your Masters Tuition Fees reflecting our commitment to support the top undergraduate students in the School of Languages and Social Sciences.

CELCA Scholarship: For MA students with native speaker competence in English    

£2000 towards the cost of your tuition fees

The School of Languages and Social Sciences offers 3 x £2000 bursaries towards the cost of the MA/MSc tuition fees for students with native speaker competence in English. In return, the students will complete up to six hours a week pastoral work for the School. 

The exact nature of this work will be decided at the beginning of the programme but may include providing support to international Postgraduate and International Year Abroad students, the IELTS team, deliver speaking classes for our IYA (International Year Abroad) and KYA (Kansai Year Abroad) students, help conference and workshop organisers, academic visitors or students with special needs. The work will often take place at different times every week - depending on the projects you support.

Postgraduate Research Scholarship

The projects are available to students meeting the University and School academic entry requirements and scholarships for international students will be awarded competitively on merit. There at a total of 5 scholarships for international students which will cover payment of £7,000 per year towards tuition fees against the international programme fee. 

Requirements 

  • Applicants should have or expect a good Bachelor (Hons.) Degree (either first class or upper second class) or hold an MSc in a relevant discipline and the appropriate English Language qualifications.
  • The English Language requirements are a minimum overall score of 101 (with minimum marks in each sections of: R: 23, W: 26, L: 23 and S: 22) in TOEFL (Internet-Based) OR IELTS with minimum marks of 6.5 in each section and an minimum overall band of 7.0 OR Pearson with minimum marks of 63 in each section and an minimum overall score of 72.
  • The Scholarships are for 3 years, subject to a satisfactory progress review at the end of the first year, and are available for July 2014 Registrations.

Projects are available in Research Groups allied to: Biology, Pharmacy, Optometry and Psychology.

Ferguson Foundation Scholarship

The School of Life & Health Sciences is offering 10 scholarships to students from Africa and South America. Scholarships are supported by the Ferguson Foundation which is dedicated to improving educational opportunities for students who would not otherwise be able to consider study in the UK. The scholarships are available to students applying to on campus programmes offered in the School of Life & Health Sciences.  


The  Ferguson Scholarships apply to the following programmes:

  • MSc in Biomedical Sciences  
  • MSc in Drug Delivery
  • MSc in Occupational Toxicology
  • MSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences
  • MSc in Pharmacokinetics
  • MSc in Pharmacology
  • MSc in Molecular Pharmaceutics 
  • MSc in Health Psychology  
  • MSc in Cognitive Neurosciences

If successful, you will have to contribute £3,000 (approx) towards your MSc tuition fees. Please note you will be required to provide evidence to the UKBA that you have the £3,000 plus living costs.

Please note: 

The deadline for applications to the scholarship is Monday 31st March 2014; therefore you must submit an application for one of the above programmes prior to this date. We take two weeks to process applications. 

To be considered for the scholarship, you must:

Be a National from an African or South American country and submit a concise 1,000-1,500 word essay explaining how you and your home country will benefit from the skills and knowledge you will acquire in the MSc course you have applied for.

You must be in receipt of an offer for one of the above programmes prior to applying for the scholarship.
