Our MBA scholarships are designed to support talented applicants wishing to develop their skills and knowledge with the Aston MBA. 

For 2015/16 we have a variety of scholarship awards available. Details of these awards can be found in the table below, followed by instructions on how to apply.

GREAT Britain Scholarship

This scholarship in conjunction with the British Council is available to Indian students wishing to start the full time Aston MBA in October 2015.



Am I eligible?

 Applicants wishing to apply for one of the Aston MBA scholarships must meet the following criteria:

  • Full completion of an online application for the Aston MBA. it is recommended that applicants submit their scholarship application at the same time as their MBA application (see details below).

  • Be a self-funded candidate

 *Please note that the Regional Scholarships and GREAT Britain Scholarship carry the additional geographical criteria detailed in the table above.

How to apply     

Once these criteria have been met applicants can apply for a scholarship by submitting a succinct cover letter to mba@aston.ac.uk making sure to note their full name and application number (this number will be included in their MBA application email acknowledgement). The cover letter should:

  • Be a maximum of 700 words
  • State why they have selected their programme of study, how they are going to apply the knowledge they learn in their career and 
  • Demonstrate your potential to contribute to the learning experience of the programme and become a successful ambassador for the school during your studies.

Applicants must be available for an interview (which may be via skype) as this is an essential part of the scholarship assessment. This interview is used to consider both consider admission and scholarship assessment.

Applicants make only one general scholarship application for all of the above scholarships and are not required to specify which scholarship they wish to be considered for. This decision will be made by the scholarship panel.

What happens next?

Applications will be assessed upon the following criteria:

  • Academic merit based on previous qualifications
  • Ambition and the potential to make a significant contribution to business and to society after graduation.  

Aston Alumni Bursaries

We will award a bursary of 20% of the full fee for all those who completed their first degree at Aston University. The bursary will be reflected in your fees which will be shown in the offer e-mail. Alumni may also apply for the other ABS scholarships to a maximum award of 50% of the full tuition costs.

GREAT Britain Scholarships - India 2015 

The School of Engineering & Applied Science and the British Council India are delighted to announce 2 scholarships of £7500 each in value for self-financing Indian students joining us in September 2015.

  • 2 x scholarships for any MSc Engineering course worth £7500 each in value

Please note this is for Indian applicants only. 


In order to be eligible for a scholarship award, applicants will need to:

  • Have been offered a conditional or unconditional place on an MSc course within the School of Engineering & Applied Science
  • Be a self-funded student
  • Submit a personal statement (details below) for consideration by a panel of senior University staff


After receiving the offer of a place, and before the deadline of 5pm (BST) on Tuesday 30th June 2015, students wishing to apply for a scholarship should submit a personal statement, which should:

  • Be between 500-700 words
  • Cover the topic of “Why I should be awarded a GREAT Britain Scholarship and why I wish to pursue postgraduate study in engineering at Aston”

Available for all Aston LSS students who hold a First Class Aston undergraduate degree, the LSS Excellence Bursary provides an additional 5% discount on your Masters Tuition Fees which complements the existing 20% Aston Graduate Discount. In total, the LSS Excellence Bursary and the Aston Graduate Discount amount to 25% off your Masters Tuition Fees reflecting our commitment to support the top undergraduate students in the School of Languages and Social Sciences.

2015 Commonwealth Shared Scholarships

The School of Life and Health Sciences, Aston University, is partnering with the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom (CSC) to offer ONE Commonwealth Shared Scholarship.This scholarship is intended for students from developing countries who would not otherwise be able to afford to undertake a postgraduate Master’s level study in the UK, to gain skills and knowledge which will allow them to contribute to the development of their home countries.

Ferguson Foundation Scholarship

The School of Life & Health Sciences is offering 10 scholarships to students from Africa and South America. Scholarships are supported by the Ferguson Foundation which is dedicated to improving educational opportunities for students who would not otherwise be able to consider study in the UK.

The scholarships are available to students applying to on campus programmes offered in the School of Life & Health Sciences.

The Ferguson Scholarships apply to the following programmes:

  • MSc in Biomedical Sciences

  • MSc Molecular Biotechnology

  • MSc Health & Disease

  • MSc Stem Cells & Regenerative Medicine

  • MSc in Drug Delivery

  • MSc in Occupational Toxicology

  • MSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences

  • MSc in Pharmacokinetics

  • MSc in Pharmacology

  • MSc in Molecular Pharmaceutics

  • MSc in Pharmaceutical Engineering

  • MSc in Health Psychology

  • MSc in Cognitive Neurosciences


If successful, you will have to contribute £3,000 (approx) towards your MSc tuition fees. Please note you will be required to provide evidence to the UKBA that you have the £3,000 plus living costs.

How to apply

Please note:

The deadline for applications to the scholarship is 6th March 2015; therefore you must submit an application for one of the above programmes prior to this date. We take two weeks to process applications.

To be considered for the scholarship, you must:

Be a National from an African or South American country and submit a concise 1,000-1,500 word essay explaining how you and your home country will benefit from the skills and knowledge you will acquire in the MSc course you have applied for.

You must be in receipt of an offer for one of the above programmes prior to applying for the scholarship.

Please then email the essay to lhspgt@aston.ac.uk and include your full name and student number.

Postgraduate Research Scholarship

The projects are available to students meeting the University and School academic entry requirements and scholarships for international students will be awarded competitively on merit.

There at a total of 10 scholarships for international students which will cover payment of £7,000 per year towards tuition fees against the international programme fee.

PLEASE NOTE: These Overseas PhD Scholarships of £7,000 a year are offset against the international tuition fees of £14,480 a year.


  • Applicants should have or expect a good Bachelor (Hons.) Degree (either first class or upper second class) or hold an MSc in a relevant discipline and the appropriate English Language qualifications.

  • The English Language requirements are a minimum overall score of 101 (with minimum marks in each sections of: R: 23, W: 26, L: 23 and S: 22) in TOEFL (Internet-Based) OR IELTS with minimum marks of 6.5 in each section and an minimum overall band of 7.0 OR Pearson with minimum marks of 63 in each section and an minimum overall score of 72.
  • The Scholarships are for 3 years, subject to a satisfactory progress review at the end of the first year, and are being considered for April 2015 and July 2015 registrations.

(Although now closed for January 2015 registrations, applications are being considered for April 2015 registrations.)

Project Details

Projects are available in Research Groups allied to: Biology, Pharmacy, Optometry and Psychology.

Vietnam-Vaccine Scholarships (Overseas Students only)

Arising from the Aston-led 2014 BC workshop, “Enhancing vaccine design strategies: Applications for protein science, proteomics and adjuvants”, we are pleased to announce 2 PhD Scholarships in Vaccine Biotechnology available to start from October 2014.

Please note this is for Vietnamese applicants only. 
On the recommendation of our partner institutions, successful scholars appointed to the School of Life and Health Sciences will be eligible for scholarships of £7,000 per year against fees.

Applicants should follow the standard admissions process detailed here stating their preference for a project on;

V1) Vaccine biotechnology under the supervision of both Prof Y Perrie and Prof R Bill

V2) IL-33 as a target in rheumatoid arthritis
