web Aston University has many agreements with software vendors to provide unlimited use of their software; however this only allows installation on University owned devices and this prohibits use on personal devices such as laptops or home computers.
The following lists some of the software in use at the Univeristy and the process to obtain it for use on a personal device.
If you are working on a personal device and transferring files or documents to the university network then we ask that you have reasonable protection against viruses. For Microsoft Windows users we recommend that you have Microsoft Security Essential installed. This is a free download available from http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/products/security-essentials.
Through our educational agreements with Microsoft we are now able to provide you with access to Microsoft Office Pro Plus. This will allow you to install the full office suite on your on up to five devices and also install the mobile versions of the applications on your phone or tablet. There are also web versions of office applications which can be used from any modern web browser.
Details on installing the software on your own computer or laptop can be found here.
Access to the software is available at https://portal.office.com.
Important Notes about this addition:

You can purchase a student version of the software here.
Important: Having ordered the software a copy of your Student ID is required to prove eligibility. Send either a photo or scan of your uniCARD to email@example.com quoting your order number.
A useful guide called 'The Little EndNote How-To Book' is available to download here.
As an alternative to purchasing Endnote there is an online service available. You can register for the service at https://www.myendnoteweb.com/EndNoteWeb.html Just select the 'institutional login' link towards the bottom of the page to get started.
Students wishing to install Mathematica will need a Wolfram ID to obtain the software. If you don't have one then follow the link to the Wolfram portal and create one. Please note: You must use your Aston e-mail address when registering for your Wolfram ID.
Once you have created a Wolfram ID, please use the link below to obtain the software and license.
The University Matlab license now allows students to install Matlab on their personal computers. The installation is done via the internet so you will need an active internet connection. The installation is also very large (several gigabytes) so we would recommend not using a mobile broadband connection, unless it is unlimited.
