Adding the FollowMe Printer

Before you can print to the FollowMe system you will need to install the printer on your PC.  Below you will find instructions on how to do this for each operating system, Windows, OS X and Ubuntu.

  1. Press the Windows Logo key and R to bring up the Run window - or click on the Start menu and select Run
  2. Enter the following and then click the OK button

    \\staffprint-02\FollowMe

  3. The printer will now install automatically

It is possible to add / keep the original print queue for backup purposes. Please follow the same instructions as above, however you will need to enter \\staffprint-01\FollowMe instead.

You should now be able to print to the FollowMe printers. If you have any problems please contact the ISA Helpdesk.

You will need an administrator account to install the FollowMe printer on OS X.  If you do not have an administrator account please contact the IT Helpdesk and we will be happy to install it for you.

Installing the Printer Driver

  1. Download the printer driver here
  2. Open the Downloads folder and double click on the 'Kyocera OS X 10.5+.dmg' icon to open the disk image file.
  3. A new Finder window will open
  4. Double click on the 'Kyocera OS X 10.5+ Web build 2012.11.30.pkg' icon to run the installer
  5. The installer will now run
  6. Click the 'Continue' button
  7. Click the 'Continue' button again
  8. Click the 'Continue' button for a third time
  9. Click the 'Agree' button to accept the license agreement
  10. Click the 'Install' button
  11. You will now be prompted to enter an administrator username and password
  12. Click the 'Close' button
  13. Unmount the print driver disk image by clicking on the eject button next to the Kyocera icon in the Finder sidebar.
  14. You can now delete the downloaded driver .dmg file.

Installing the Printer

  1. Open 'System Preferences' from the Apple menu

  2. Click on the 'Print & Scan' icon

  3. Click on the '+' button to add a new printer

  4. In the 'Add Printer' window click on the 'IP' button on the toolbar

  5. Enter the following information (use the primary settings first, if these don't work use the alternative settings):

  6. Under the 'Print Using' drop down menu choose 'Select Printer Software...'

  7. Scroll down the list and select the 'Kyocera TASKAlfa 5550ci (KPDL)' driver and click 'OK'

  8. Click 'Add'

  9. You may receive an error at this point, if you do just click 'Continue'

  10. Enter the following device information and then click 'OK':

    Paper Feeders: Cassettes 3,4
    Inner Job Separator: [Not Checked]
    Right Job Separator: [Not Checked]
    Mailbox: [Not Checked]
    Punch Unit: [Not Checked]
    Folding Unit: [Checked]
    Document Finisher: 4000-sheet finisher
    Optional Disk: Hard disk

You should now be able to print to the FollowMe printers.  If you have any problems please contact the ISA Helpdesk.

  1. Open 'System Settings'
  2. Click on the 'Printers' icon
  3. Click 'Add' - if this option is not available open a terminal windows and enter the command

    system-config-printer

  4. In the left hand pane expand the 'Network Printer' options and select 'Windows Printer via SAMBA'
  5. Enter the following in the 'SMB Printer' field:

    staffprint-02/FollowMe

  6. Ensure the 'Prompt user if authentication is required' option is selected
  7. Click the 'Forward' button
  8. Select Kyocera Mita and click 'Forward'
  9. Select TASKalfa 500ci and click 'Forward'
  10. Enter the following information and then click 'Forward'

    Paper Feeders: Cassettes 3,4
    Job Separator: [Checked]
    Mailbox: [Not Checked]
    Punch Unit: [Not Checked]
    Folding Unit: [Checked]
    Document Finisher: 3000-sheet finisher
    Optional Disk: Hard disk

  11. Enter the following information and click 'Apply'

    Printer Name: FollowMe
    Description: FollowMe Printing System
    Location: Campus Wide

  12. Click the 'Print Test Page' button
  13. The 'Printer Properties' window will be displayed showing the 'Printer State' as 'Idle - Session setup failed: NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED'
  14. Press 'OK' to close this window
  15. Right click the 'FollowMe' printer icon and select 'View Print Queue'
  16. Right click on the 'Test Page' print job and select 'Authenticate'
  17. Enter your username (prefixed with CAMPUS\) and password and if you want the system to store you password check the 'Remember password' check box
  18. Click 'OK'
  19. The test page will now be released to the FollowMe system
