Profile
I have been in the electrical industry for over 10 years, starting off as a Modern Apprentice for LG Electronics in Newport, South Wales. Following this I joined NHS Estates as an Electrician before moving into the power industry in 2005. Since 2005 I have worked for a number of distribution network operators, where I have carried out detailed HV/LV design along with the project management of industrial and domestic power utility connections. I joined the electrical power teaching team at Aston in 2008 and have taught on the majority of year 1 and 2 modules.

Research interests
My main area of interest is in the development of the smart grid and the challenges that will face the industry as a result. My current research portfolio includes work on Dynamic Asset Rating of Cables, Overheads Lines and transformers as part of project FALCON in conjunction with Western Power Distribution.
