Profile 

I received M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from Belarusian State University (BSU), Minsk, in 1985 and 1991, respectively. From 1985 to 1999, I worked at the Department of Physics, BSU in a range of different positions, from Research Assistant to Senior Researcher/Team Leader. From 1999 to 2005, I moved to Sweden and acquired industrial experience working at Ericsson AB, Royal Institute of Technology, and Acreo AB. From 2005 to 2010, I worked at the Optics Research Group (ORG), Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT), Ireland as a Senior Researcher/Project Manager. During his time at WIT I spent 2 years managing the ORG, WIT. In 2010 I have been awarded Marie Curie Fellowship and he joined the Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies (AIPT), Aston University (AU), UK, first as a Research Fellow and since 2013 as a FP7 IAPP Project Coordinator.

My researchers interests
  • Nonlinear Optics and Laser Physics: Mode locked fibre lasers: design, characterisation and biomedical applications; complex dynamics operations and spatial structures in dye, semiconductor, solid state and fibre lasers; polarisation phenomena in laser physics and spectroscopy: polarisation chaos, vector solitons, polarisation switching, and orientation relaxation processes (Brownian rotation, Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET)); Monte Carlo simulation techniques in application for fibres with random birefringence, ensemble of organic molecules and rare-earth ions.
  • Nanophotonics & Biosensing: Interferometer-based nanoparticles detection; modelling microcavity - based biosensors.

     

  • Fibre Optic Communications & Sensing: Fibre optic amplifiers & lasers: development, experimental and theoretical characterization; polarisation mode dispersion and polarisation dependent gain in distributed fibre Raman amplifiers; migration assisted upconversion in erbium-doped glasses; Interferometers & spectrometers for fibre sensing  applications.
