Profile 
 

I joined Aston in November 2015 as a Lecturer in Chemical Engineering, having worked for nine years as a Research Fellow at the renowned Energy Research Institute in the School of Chemical & Process Engineering, University of Leeds. 

During my time in Leeds, I worked with Professor Paul T. Williams, on a number of EPSRC and industrially-funded research projects on catalytic thermochemical (pyrolysis and gasification) processing of biomass and municipal solid wastes for the production of fuels and feedstock chemicals. I also investigated the formation and suppression of persistent organic pollutants, including dioxins from waste incinerators. 

My PhD work at the University of Leeds, pioneered a new direction of research in the broader area of hydrothermal (supercritical & subcritical water) processing of terrestrial and algal biomass for the production of hydrogen and methane fuel gases as well as renewable chemicals. I was able to continue to develop this innovative research area as a fellow and went on to successfully co-supervise 5 PhD theses and 3 MSc dissertations, extending hydrothermal technology to the processing of plastics and composites for energy and materials recovery.
