Research Areas

Free space optical comms
Quantum cryptography

I got my PhD performing laser spectroscopy on tiny samples of radioactive atoms produced  at an accelerator. I spent a few years as a post doc doing more of the same, as well as positron emission tomography for non-medical applications.
I joined DERA in 1998. In 2001 I transitioned to QinetiQ where I became technical leader for some significant programmes including free-space quantum cryptography, novel concepts in night vision and playing around with laser induced breakdown spectroscopy.
In 2009 I  joined L-3 TRL and became chief scientist leading a multi-disciplinary research group. I gave it all up for some freedom in academic research.

PhD Supervision

I have an external PhD Student at Bristol University
