Success & Visions for Bioenergy Workshop - post event review

Bioenergy workshop 2007

The Success & Visions for Bioenergy Workshop, hosted by ThermalNet and supported by SUPERGEN Bioenergy, took place on the 22nd - 23rd March 2007 at the Renaissance Hotel in Salzburg, Austria.  The workshop was well attended with approximately 125 attendees from across the world, including Europe, Vietnam, the USA, Canada and China.  The workshop ran smoothly and efficiently and seemed to be enjoyed by attendees from the positive feedback that has been received.

The intensive programme included 14 interesting presentations from a wide range of speakers from within the bioenergy industry and research community. The workshop started with state of the art presentations to set the scene.  The next set of presentations (Success Stories) were case studies of successful bioenergy projects and the final presentation session was concerned with visions for the future of the bioenergy industry.

There were 8 workshops throughout the event, which provided some lively and stimulating discussion on focussed topics, the results/reports from which were presented to all attendees at a conclusions session at the end of the event.

Attendees were invited to submit papers and posters to the organising committee, with papers being included in a book of proceedings, along with the posters.  Around 40 posters were displayed in the meeting room and were available throughout the workshop, with specific poster viewing and discussion sessions planned into the programme. As well as the intensive programme of presentations, poster sessions and workshops there was also a lively and enjoyable social evening at the workshop banquet on Thursday night, which was a very nice 5 course meal in the beautiful Stiftskeller St. Peters restaurant in Salzburg's picturesque Old Town, with a pianist, violinist and double bass player providing live classical music.

In summary the interesting content, scope of attendees from around the world, enjoyable social events with great food and beautiful setting all contributed to making this a very successful and enjoyable event.
