ASEC is led by Drs Gareth Thomson and Jane Andrews both of who have worked in the STEM Education Research field for a number of years.
Gareth has a BEng Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Laser Materials Processing from the University of Dundee. He is actively involved in the development of new approaches to engineering education and is an active collaborator in the global CDIO initiative. Gareth is currently head of the Mechanical Engineering family of undergradaute programmes at Aston as well as co-Director for the Aston STEM Education Centre.
Jane Andrews has a PhD in Voluntary Sector Management from Aston University. She spent 20 years working in the Public & Voluntary Sectors before returning to education as a mature undergraduate student in 1998. Jane completed her PhD in 2006 and joined Aston University as a Research Fellow in Education. She joined the School of Engineering & Applied Science in 2010 and is currently one of only a handful of Social Scientists in Europe to hold a Senior Lectureship in Engineering.
