Following a winning bid to the National Express Foundation (NEFB), Aston University has been awarded funding to provide up to thirty £1,000 student bursaries over a four year period, starting with eight awards in academic year 2016/17.
A further eight bursaries are available for 2017/18, and up to seven bursaries will be made in 2018/19 and 2019/20.
The bursaries will provide additional funding for living expenses for young adult carers from our student community who are from low income backgrounds and are studying an undergraduate degree. We define young adult carers as ‘Young people aged 14-25 who care, unpaid, for a family member or friend with an illness or disability, mental health condition or an addiction.’
To be considered eligible for a National Express Foundation Bursary students must be:
The bursaries will primarily be awarded to undergraduates whose home address (permanent address) is from one of these geographical areas :
Applications from students whose home address is outside these areas may still be considered on a case by case basis, if all other eligibility criteria are met.
Applications from candidates who meet the eligibility criteria will be prioritised in the following order:
We would not normally accept applications from students who are repeating all or part of an academic year. However where academic failure can be attributed to caring responsibilities, applications may be considered on a case by case basis.
The application deadline for 2017/18 has now passed. Applications for 2018/19 will be accepted in November 2018 - eligible students will be contacted by email.
