Event Guides

As well as Student Ambassadors, we also employ Event Guides to work at the main Open Days. 

This work may appeal if you don't want to commit to working throughout the year or would prefer to work on very specific days.

You will work at the main Open Days and other large events on campus. Core duties will include:

  • Meet and greet visitors
  • Direct visitors around campus
  • Answer questions about facilities at Aston and being a student here
  • Take visitors on campus tours to include viewing student residences

 

Payment is £9.36ph

All Event Guides need to be available to work the following dates:

  • Saturday 29 October 2016
  • Saturday 17 June 2017
  • Saturday 7 October 2017
  • Saturday 4 November 2017

 

Job Description 

Overview

The Student Recruitment and Outreach (SRO) team organises and delivers large scale recruitment events to encourage prospective students to study at Aston University.  

Event guides assist the SRO team to deliver events such as Open Days and the UCAS Exhibition on campus by;

  • welcoming visitors 
  • co-ordinating activities
  • delivering campus tours
  • signposting visitors 
  • answering questions
  • promoting life at Aston University 

 

Event Guides are often the face of the University being first people that visitors to Aston come into contact with, and as such are responsible for delivering an excellent first impression.

Working hours

All Event guides need to be available to work the following dates:

  • Saturday 29 October 2016
  • Saturday 17 June 2017
  • Saturday 7 October 2017
  • Saturday 4 November 2017

 

Training 

Mandatory briefing sessions take place before large events on campus.

Event guides will be required to attend the Open Day training, and at least one additional training session per year. Dates of the training TBC.

Conditions

If you cannot attend an event you have been assigned to, you must let the event manager know as soon as possible so contingencies can be made. You must let us know via email or phone no later than 2 working days before the event.

Special Conditions

Student ambassadors who do not undertake any duties within a single term or fail to give due notifications of absence from an event will cease to be retained as Student Ambassadors unless proof of extenuating circumstances is provided. This condition may be waived where the student ambassador can provide evidence of extenuating circumstances. 

A three strike policy is in place. If student ambassadors get three strikes during their employment, they will not be allowed to work as a student ambassador again. 

All prospective student ambassadors must be current students at Aston University.

Follow these simple steps to apply to the scheme:  

  1. Read the student ambassador scheme job description
  2. Book to attend the Information Session (places are limited so early booking is advised)
  3. After attending the Information Session, complete an online application form 
  4. Successful applicants must then attend a compulsory training session as part of the recruitment process before they can start work as a student ambassador

If you wish to apply for the scheme, please ensure that you are able to attend both the Information Session on Wednesday 12 October and the training session on Wednesday 16 November. 

ID/Right to Work Checks

According to the UK Border Agency legislation Aston University is required to record information about its employees and check certain original documents (Right To Work Check). We must check the documents of ALL students who will be working for us before they start work.. 

We will need to see your original (i.e. not a photocopy) proof of ID documents regardless of your nationality.   

Please note that ALL documentation must be in-date. Some key points to consider: 

UK nationals 

  • A valid, in-date passport is an acceptable form of identification.
  • If you do not have a valid passport you can bring in your National Insurance card AND full-length Birth Certificate (the full-length UK Birth Certificate will have at least one parent name on it). Please note that shorter length Birth Certificates CANNOT be accepted.
  • A UK Driver’s Licence is NOT an acceptable form of identification.

 EU/EEA nationals 

  • A valid, in-date passport or National Identity Card is an acceptable form of identification.
  • Croatian nationals should provide a valid purple registration certificate or contact HR for further information (HR_helpdesk@aston.ac.uk) 

 International (Non UK or EU/EEA)

  • We will need to see your in-date passport AND your current visa/work permit.
