How does the scheme work?
The scheme is a prepaid card for help with budgeting for and buying food and drink across campus.

Why should I use the Touch Pay scheme instead of just paying by cash?

  1. As a Touch Pay user, you will be entitled to a 10% discount off your purchases every time you buy food and drink using your Touch Pay card. This is exclusive to Touch Pay users.

  2. It's up to 30% quicker to use than paying by cash or credit card, less time at the till, more time to enjoy your food.

  3. You can load funds online directly from your credit or debit cards. Credit and debit cards are not currently accepted in CafeTierra and CafeLibro so using Touch Pay gives you an additional way to pay.

  4. It's safer, the funds are stored on your uniCARD so there's no need to carry as much cash on campus and funds stored on your account cannot be withdrawn as cash or used anywhere other than the Catering@Aston outlets.

How do I apply?
Apply online via the MAP student portal or by visiting www.aston.ac.uk/catering and go to the Touch Pay pages.
 
Where can I use the card?
The card can be used in the CaféTierra food court (Main Building), CaféLibro (Aston University Library) and DolcHeVita (Staff and Postgraduate restaurant only)
 
Are there any set-up fees?
No, there is no set up fee for the scheme, the money you put on the card is yours to spend. 

What is the minimum top-up amount?
£20 can be added online.

Is there a maximum value I can have on my card at any one time?
Yes, £100. However you can pay more into your Touch Pay account and your card will top up automatically when it falls below £50.
 
What methods of payment are available to load the card?
Online you can pay by credit or debit card.
 
I want to know the ‘balance’ on my card / account – what do I do?
You can check your card balance through the online portal. Or when you pay for goods your balance with show on the card reader.
 
I'm checking my balance online but the balance is showing less than it should be?
The balance shown represents your last known balance at the time and location stated. Transactions may have occurred since this one and have not yet been processed.
If your balance is between £50 and £100, you may have money in your online account waiting to be downloaded. For security, money is not automatically downloaded until your balance falls below £50. If you've recently topped up your card, these funds won't appear on your balance until you've visited a card reader machine and downloaded them. 

What happens if I have insufficient credit on my card at a transaction?
You will be able to pay any additional sum required, by cash.

My card doesn’t seem to be working - what do I do?
If you are having difficulties with your card please bring it to the ISA Helpdesk in Main Building Level Four to have it checked.
 
What do I do if I lose my card?
Report the loss online by logging into the MAP student portal or via www.aston.ac.uk/catering AND call 0121 204 4803
The card will be cancelled as soon as it is reported, so future use is not possible. You can come to ISA Helpdesk Reception for a new card (subject to a replacement fee) and any remaining balance will be transferred. You will need to bring identification with you.

What do I do if my card is stolen?
Report the theft online by logging into the MAP student portal or via www.aston.ac.uk/catering AND call 0121 204 4803.
The card will be cancelled as soon as it is reported, so future use is not possible. You can come to ISA Helpdesk Reception for a new card and any remaining balance will be transferred. You will need to bring identification with you and a crime reference number.
 
If my card is lost or stolen, what happens if someone else attempts to use it – will it be accepted, will I be liable for the expenditure?
You will not be responsible for any transactions made after you have reported your card missing. The card will be cancelled as soon as it is reported, so that future use is not possible. If your card is presented and the cashier believes that the card is being used fraudulently, the card will be retained and the incident recorded.
Can I use funds from a card without showing it at the till?
No, card purchases must go through a till.

Can I get refunds back onto a card for issues with goods?
Yes, refunds will be given as per consumer practice, if the card was used for the purchase, the refund will be made to the card.  The outlet where the purchase was made will need to deal with this.
 
When will the card / scheme expire?
The Touch Pay scheme has no scheduled end but will be reviewed by Catering@Aston on an annual basis

If there is money left on the card and I wish to cancel the card, can I obtain a refund on my balance?
Yes, as per terms and conditions or fill in the on-line withdrawal form. For the current scheme we can refund balances of £5 or more.
