Whether you are starting your course in September or at another time of the year, there is a lot to do when you start university – move in, unpack and sort your room out, meet your flatmates and coursemates, enrol and get involved.
Starting university can be a little daunting, but remember there are plenty of people around to help you. And don't forget, if you come across a problem don’t panic. Chances are it's a common problem and can be easily fixed by speaking to someone.
Here are a few tips which should help you through your first week:
Remember that others are in the same situation as you. No one feels completely confident in a new place, with new people. With this in mind, pluck up the courage to knock on your neighbour's door or start up a conversation with the person sitting next to you.
If you're not sure what to do next, or you've got an hour spare, why not head over to the Martin Luther King multi-faith centre.
Don't forget there are plenty of people around for you to talk to: a member of staff, a flatmate, a family member or friend from home. If you have a question relating to your course, get in touch with your Academic School . The Hub is the place to go to access our excellent student support services.
If you're arriving in September, look out for an Aston Auntie - they're there to help get you settled in, or if you've got questions about your course, look out for an Academic Arrival Guide, who'll be happy to help you
If you are arriving at other times of the year, pop into the Hub in the Main Building and find out about Aston's support services.
Your place is confirmed, accommodation is sorted, now there’s only one thing left to sort; your bags.
When you are moving out of home for the first time, we know there is a huge temptation to bring everything you own. However, it's better to be fairly ruthless with what you bring and what you leave. To help you do this, we have put together a list of the essential things that you will need.
If you're an international student, remember that you can easily buy everything you need once you get to the UK.
Make sure you check the Enrolment Guide for full details about how to enrol on your course.
